Using these search engines makes college planning more efficient and effective. They differ in focus and format. Find one or two that you find easiest use. Please let us know if you discover a link that is no longer valid or discover other useful sites you think should be included.

Two-Year Institutions

Colorado Community College system   An overview to our state community college system, with links to 13 community colleges, plus the online option.

Community College finder   Links to two-year colleges by state from the American Association of Community Colleges.

 

Two-year Colleges by Sport  Interactive map of two-year community colleges, by the National Junior College Athletic Association, which can be filtered by sport, state and region.

Minority-specific

Minority Institutions  From the U.S. Department of Education, lists of institutions serving minority populations. Included are Part B (Historically Black Colleges and Universities); Hispanic-serving; Tribal colleges and universities; Alaska native-serving; Hawaiian-serving; Predominantly Black Institutions; Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander; and Native American-serving nontribal.

Colleges and Universities

College Scorecard  Easy-to-use interface from the US Department of Education, matches two- and four-year schools to selection criteria such as degree programs, location, size, specialized mission (e.g., Hispanic-serving), and religious affiliation.

Big Future by the College Board  A comprehensive guide to finding, paying for, and making a plan for college, provided by the not-for-profit organization behind the SAT and other educational services.

 

College In Colorado   Initiated by the Department of Higher Education (DHE) "to promote access to, affordability of, and success in higher education for all students."

 

National Application Center  A site from XAP, the self-proclaimed industry leader in "developing and providing students and adults with the online tools to explore careers, and explore, plan and apply to colleges and universities."

College Navigator  From the National Center for Educational Statistics, filters on a variety of criteria and provides side-by-side comparison.

College Data 411 A variety of tools, calculators and articles, a service provided by 1st Financial Bank USA.


Best Colleges in America  A search tool for colleges and technical institutions, created by Niche, a company founded by Carnegie Mellon students who are "obsessed with providing students, families, and professionals with best-in-class content and deep insight into big life decisions."


UCAN College Portraits  Lists of colleges and universities that can be sorted by institution, state, or affiliation/mission. 

 

Colleges That Change Lives  A non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and support of a student-centered college search process. CTCL's goal is for each student to find a college that develops a lifelong love of learning and provides the foundation for a successful and fulfilling life beyond college.
